Bye Bye Krakow ;(

Once more its time to say goodbye … but just for a moment. Definitely a place to return! This city has such a awesome hype, so nice people and so many nice corners to see. There is always something to do. Wether it is daytime or night time.
With its 200k students – which are about 20% of the inhabitants – Krakow is a very young city with a lot of restaurants, bars and clubs. There is not a single evening where the city sleeps. Even on the 1st of January, a sunday, you won’t be alone in the opened places.
Again a great place even if the waitress serving you sometimes could need some speed up. Or the lady behind the desk in the 24h shop isn’t that pleased to serve you. But in general you will get what you asked for it’s just a matter of patience.
In general people take they job seriously. Like the security officer at the airport who even checked my DSLR which usually is not checked. Just ensure that there is no explosive in the giant lens … 😀

Summer they said. Shall be a great time to go to Krakow. Anyway a winter in Krakow by minus 20 degree and some snow could be nice as well. So lets see when the time comes again, looking forward to it 🙂

Auschwitz …

Today I went on a trip to the former concentration camp Auschwitz. Somehow an impressive place but shocking at the same time. Some parts of the camp are preserved and used as an museum. But the main camp was burn down by the Nazi’s before the russian liberated the camp.

Some of the facility of the camp where the museum is placed. Here in this camp happened some of the most serious crimes the german regime did.

The infamous entrance to the camp of Auschwitz I.

The end of the rail and also the end of hundred of thousand people. This rail just ends next to the massive crematorium where human beings were murdered and burned. In the background the gate to the camp is visible but the rest of the camp was destroyed before the germans left the place.

entrance to the camp

The main gate to the camp. Somehow you could say it was the gate to the worst place many people experienced.

Is nice to see this historical place but as said before it is also shocking to see all this. Once you were taught at school about all these crimes but to see it, it’s different …

Trip to the nearby Salt Mines of Wieliczka

One of the daytrips you can do from Krakow. Just an half an hour by minibus are the salt mines of Wieliczka. One of the biggest salt mine to its time and for that one of the first protected object through the UNESCO world heritage.

staircase down to the ground of the mine (60/130m)

Awesome staircase down to the Level one of the mine. In total there are nine levels, Level9 on 330m underneath the surface. Unfortunately no one would give me his mobile phone for letting it fall through the tiny gap 😀

salt figures working in the salt mine

Some parts of the visitor part. There all over some salt figures to show the people how life under the surface used to be.

evaluator back to the top

On the end of the trip you can take a lift back to the top of the mine. Luckily you do not have to walk all the way back.

Cool daytrip, should you once stay in Krakow a must do it.

Down Town Krakow

Not much to say, is just another wonderful medieval City or at least the old part of it. Just sooooo much bigger as Tallinn. Just check the pics …

Part of the old city wall.

Artists presenting some of their work along the city wall …

The castle of Krakow through the trees of the park.

Not taken in the middle of the night but at 5pm! Krakow maine square.

early morning flight from zurich to vienna

Same weather all over the alps as it seems. Cool cloud pictures. Unfortunately on the wrong side, no sunrise for me!
