Even if Switzerland is such a small country it was already more than 15 years ago since I was in Ticino – italian part of Switzerland – the last time. What Spain is for the EU Ticino might be in Switzerland. Known for the higher unemployment rate and there for low economics. But it is also as a well known holiday destination. The climate on the southern site of the alps is mild. A perfect place to escape the rainy days on the northern site.
On the day I left Interlaken for Locarno the weather became cloudy and it was about to rain. Same scenario at the time we entered the Gotthard tunnel. But by the time we left the tunnel in the south we were welcomed by warm sun rays coming down from the sky and so was the weather in my destination Locarno.
Locarno and its scenery around its another great place to do some hiking. Beside some trekking up the mountain in the neighbourhood of Locarno, getting lost in its forrest while following some blue markings I also went into the infamous Verzasca valley. An unique place in Switzerland with its old stony buildings build of granite plates.
A pictures sand beach somewhere along the river Verzasca. No disturbing noises from civilization out here. Only singing birds, the noise of turbulent water and perhaps some other people…
… and perhaps some goats which belong to a small farmhouse. Just a perfect place for a stop over from south to north or a weekend trip. 100% relaxation for sure.
